Cricket-Gilchrist, Sharma smash Deccan to victory against
Adam Gilchrist and Rohit Sharma hammered explosive half centuries to set up a 24-run for the victory against the Deccan Chargers, Bangalore Royal Challengers in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match at Newlands on Wednesday.
Unbeaten Deccan are top of the table after two matches. Their total of 184 for six was the highest of the competition so far and Bangalore never seriously threatened to match fell to 160-8 before.
South Africa Jacques Kallis (15) and Kevin Pietersen of England (11) times before being briefly captured prospered to cover, respectively, and perplexed.
The race does have a 48 from only 27 balls by India batteur Rahul Dravid and 50 from 32 deliveries of 20-year-old Virat Kohli, but the competition has never been closed.
Former Australia international Gilchrist belted five in six races from 71 from 45 balls Deccan. Right Sharma matched in 52 of his deliveries to 30 against a largely unhappy Bangalore bowling attack.
Former England captain Pietersen was the least penalized with a pitcher returning from two windows by 31 runs in his four overs.
The second edition of the IPL has been moved out of India because of security concerns and logical issues surrounding the holding of general elections in that country.
